One of the cool thing about being unapologetically a nerd is you get to talk about stuff like this and show off your nerdy side and no one can use that against you. Sure, I may have taken a line from A Game of Thrones, but I'd like to think that it applies here as well. I like being a little nerdy and I hope that my child will continue to feel the same the older she gets. She likes to tell me that I am weird and I remind her that in life you can be weird of you can be boring. I choose to be weird!
So, in 2022 during the family trip to Disney, we went to Hollywood Studios and a few of us decided to make lightsabers while we were there. For the uninformed, the lightsaber was the primary weapon of choice for the Jedi in the film series Star Wars. But I am sure that most of you knew that already.
The image to the left is what they give you up front (after you pay of course) so that you can choose the model in which you want to make your lightsaber from. My brother chose Power and Control, my daughter chose Pease and Justice, while I chose Protection and Defense. From there, they led the entire group into a little room where there was a man who was helps guide you along in the process, explaining to you what the lightsaber means and treats it like a story. It was a really cool little experience. At the end, once the sabers are complete, they have a voice over of Master Yoda come and speak to everyone.
I really appreciated the other actors they called "gatherers" help Kylee put her saber together while I was working on mine. With her being a little on the short side, it was hard for her to try and grab some of the piece they had. I was proud that she picked out the style she wanted, the color of the crystal, and the exactly how she wanted the saber to look.
The "gatherers" were super sweet and helped her put together her lightsaber so I could focus on mine and make sure that I got plenty of pictures of her. She was very proud of herself for what she made and we both loved the way it turned out.
At the time, purple was her favorite color, so that is the color she went with. I ended up going with blue as it is my favorite and my little brother chose red. His rationale was it went on with his "power and control" theme of this saber hilt.

As I am sure many of you are aware, there are several Star Wars themed rides at Hollywood Studios. One of them is the original Star Tours, which has been updated to fit in the new movies. Then there is Smugglers Run, which is a little more interactive and The Rise of the Resistance, which involves you being rescued by The Resistance after being "arrested" by the First Order. I need to praise the characters who portrayed The First Order officers, as they spoke down to you and treated you like you were being arrested. They weren't crude by any means, but they made sure to stay in character.
I will never forget when we first got to Galaxy's Edge, my little brother tapped me on the shoulder and said, "There it is!" and proceeded to run off. Of course, I had to chase after him, but then we stopped at the life-size Millennium Flacon from the series. That ship, of course, being the ship that belonged to Han Solo and made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs. 😏
I said it a few times to my family and friends after the trip, that I could have spent all day in the Star Wars section alone. As an avid Star Wars fan, it was really cool to be able to feel like I could immerse myself in that fandom.
